夏は過ぎてゆく。
“Sloop John B”は、ビーチボーイズの名盤PetSounds唯一のカバー曲。あまりにも暗い音像のPetSoundsを売れないと判断したレコード会社がブライアン・ウィルソンの反対を押し切って収録したらしいけれど、今アルバムを通して聴くと、キラキラ美しく同時に少し痛いブライアンの楽曲群にはさまって、アルバム全体の統一感は損なわないまま、いい感じのでほっと一息つかせてくれているように思う。
夏の終わりのような哀愁感、ユーモアをたっぷり含んだ滑稽でちょっと情けない歌詞、とぼけた味わいも悪くない。鎖につながれたようなどろどろのブルースもいいけれど、これくらい飄々とブルースを表現できることは素敵だと思う。
何よりもこの曲、大好きなのだ。
酔っ払って一人で帰る帰り道、ふと口ずさんでみる。

“let me go home　I wanna go home, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up,I wanna go home”

で、どこへ、帰る？
